The Honourable Kelechi (Kaycee) Madu, KC, ECA

Kaycee Madu represented Edmonton-South West as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta (MLA). Kaycee served in several ministerial portfolios, including Alberta’s Deputy Premier, Ministers of Skilled Trades and Professions, Labour and Immigration, Justice, Solicitor General, Attorney General and Municipal Affairs.
Kaycee also served as Member or Chair of multiple Cabinet Policy Committees, such as: Economy and Affordability Cabinet Committee, Emergency Management Cabinet Committee (EMCC), Priorities Implementation Cabinet Committee (PICC), Legislative Review Committee (LRC), Community and Family Cabinet Committee (CFC), Jobs and Economy Cabinet Committee, and Deputy Government House Leader.
In these roles, Kaycee initiated several consequential policies that led to the passage and implementation of key pieces of legislation, such as banning carding, overhaul and inclusion of First Nation’s policing in the Police Act, the establishment of the independent Police Complaint Review Commission. On the economic files, Kaycee worked with municipal leaders in implementation of $1.1 billion in municipal infrastructure renewal projects that kept local economies functioning during the economic slowdown caused by the global pandemic. He advanced numerous other economic files that resulted in billions of dollars in investment to Alberta.
Kaycee began his career as a State Counsel with the Ministry of Justice and Legal Aid Council, Borno State, Nigeria. He worked on matters that ranged from criminal prosecution research and public defence of mostly unrepresented accused persons, and anti-poverty law related litigation. Kaycee then proceeded to Lagos where he joined the firm of T.J. Onomigbo Okpoko and Co. as an Associate Lawyer focused on commercial litigation, arbitration and corporate law. Later, Kaycee worked with the University of Alberta Hospital, Legal Aid Alberta, and the Government of Alberta specializing in strategic and operational public policy. Kaycee worked briefly with Bosecke Song LLP before establishing his law practice with a focus on commercial and labour and employment law litigation, corporate law, real estate, divorce and matrimonial property.
Kaycee earned an LL. B (JD) Honours Degree from the University of Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar. Subsequently, Kaycee obtained his equivalency in law from the Federation of Law Societies of Canada and admitted to the Law Society of Alberta. Kaycee was awarded Queen’s Counsel in 2020 (now known as King’s Counsel).
While not involved in political or legal activities, Kaycee enjoys spending time with his beautiful family, volunteers for local not-for-profit organizations, pro bono and cultural communities. Kaycee is an honoured recipient of “Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal” in 2022.

Luba Sushko, Student-At-Law
Luba was born and raised in Ukraine, where she earned her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Master of Laws (LLM) degrees from the Kyiv Academy of Personnel Management. Before relocating to Canada, she practiced law in a civil law jurisdiction as an in-house corporate lawyer, successfully representing companies before local courts and administrative bodies.
With a strong passion for human rights, Luba participated in the International Advocacy School organized by the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights. Following this experience, she became actively involved with local non-profit organizations in Ukraine, promoting human rights education and awareness within her community.
To prepare for a legal career in Canada, Luba earned a Paralegal Diploma from MacEwan University in 2020. Over the past five years, she has gained practical experience working at the federal and provincial levels of the court system.
In 2025, Luba earned her Master of Laws (LLM) in Canadian Common Law at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University and obtained the Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee on Accreditation of Federation of Law Societies of Canada.
Her diverse legal background and commitment to justice provide a strong foundation for a successful legal career in Canada.
Outside of work, Luba enjoys camping, skiing, and practicing yoga. She takes every opportunity to travel and values spending quality time with her family.
